MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION: A SIMPLE PATH TO SERENITY

"Mindfulness is about observation without criticism; being compassionate with yourself ... mindfulness allows you to catch negative thought patterns before they tip you into a downward spiral. It begins the process of putting you back in control of your life." Mark Williams and Danny Penman

As an experienced meditator of nearly 30 years and having been trained with the British Mindfulness Academy, I will invite you into an embodied mindful presence as part of your psychotherapy/counselling or supervision.

If you wish to go deeper and learn the skills of compassionate mindful presence with yourself and others, you may wish to sign up for one of my 8 weeks courses, day workshops or regular mindfulness meditation groups.

If you are interested in learning mindfulness, please call me on 07899 891992 or email me at [email protected] or click on the link on the right of this screen.

WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?

Mindfulness is a scientifically-proven technique for managing your thought processes. It is not complicated. It's your mind's natural resting place. The skills of mindfulness enable you to begin to choose where and on what you focus your attention. It's a way to come back to your calm and empowered state.

In our busy stress-filled, action-orientated lives our minds speed up to keep apace with the pressure that we put ourselves under. We can often end the day feeling exhausted, depleted in energy, frustrated at not achieving more and self critical for not being on top of all our tasks. And there never appears to be a quiet, calm time for us to wind down and recharge.

"The human mind can create conflict. It can also create peace. To find peace in the world we must find peace in ourselves. There is no higher happiness than peace." Buddha

NEW: I will be offering Rest and Renewal Retreats based on mindfulness principles and incorporating creativity in mid-Wales (near Builth Wells) in the Spring 2022. Please Click here to go to the Retreats page for further information.

HOW CAN MINDFULNESS HELP YOU?

Mindfulness and Compassionate Mindfulness practices help you to find a pathway through the chaos of modern day living. It has been shown through research to exert a powerful influence on one's health, well-being and happiness. With practice, it enables us to show up more fully in our lives and to live as if it really mattered, in the only moment that we ever get, which is this one - and that we are worthy of inhabiting our life in this way and capable of it.

"Modern neuroscience and psychology are just beginning to explore what meditative traditions have accepted for ages: that (mindful) compassion and loving-kindness are skills - not gifts that we're either born with or not - and each one of us, without exception, can develop and strengthen these skills and bring them into our everyday lives." Sharon Salzberg, Insight Meditation Society

WHAT MINDFULNESS IS NOT

Mindfulness is not a religion. It is not a philosophy or lifestyle. It is simply a tool, one that is accessible to people of all ages, cultures, religions and those who are not religious.

We will be meeting in person at the beautiful Jacobian manor house, Asthall Manor, in the village of Asthall, between Witney and Burford. There will also be opportunity for you to spend time in the beauty of the grounds and gardens.

Cost: £58 for the day (bring your own lunch. Tea and Coffee provided)

What people have said about this workshop:

I so enjoyed the meditations, the calm, the teaching, the company and ... the stunning location... and I felt you held us extremely well. A lovely, safe space in which to let our vulnerability peep out." Nicola

... thank you for such a wonderful experience ... I do feel I have grown in self-acceptance ... you have such a powerful talent at putting people at ease. I could feel all of us opening up ... Your tone of voice and your aura has allowed all of us the freedom of exploration and to surrender to that self-compassion." Kate

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT MY COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

"The (8 week Mindfulness Skills) course has changed my life greatly. It's like looking at life with a fresh pair of eyes. I believe in the future this will only grow from strength to strength and help me slow down and enjoy life minus the stresses." Tom

"I attended a 10 week mindfulness course facilitated by Delia. She has vast knowledge in the area of mindfulness, lives what she teaches, and (has) an authentic and giving style. I have attended courses and been practicing mindfulness for many years, but this course really helped me make it part of who I am every day." David

"It has made me more aware and encouraged me to persist in regular practice." Sheila

"I have felt a distinct shift internally. One meditation brought about some particular healing that is profound. It was a gentle, contained (the Mindful Self-Compassion) course but the effect has been tangible. I feel calmer and more empathic." Judith

The Mindful Self-Compassion course has "re-kindled my motivation to spend time on spiritual development. As a result, I have become more accepting of myself and others and at the same time more able to make effective choices. Much less angst in my life and time has become less of an issue... It all felt safe and appropriate." Caroline

"I thought you were so welcoming, calm, considerate and caring, which I really liked. Made us feel individually important." Wendy

"It's all been very helpful, being able to share thoughts and feelings in a small group has been very beneficial .... the handouts are good to read through at home." Laura

"The balance was good between teaching and practice... I feel well-equipped to start to develop a practice." Marilyn

I "loved the group and the sharing." Nicky

The meditations gave me "a real experience of what it's like, which is so much better than reading it in a book." Sarah

THIS POEM BEAUTIFULLY EXPRESSES THE EXPERIENCE OF BEING MINDFUL

HOKUSAI SAYS BY ROGER KEYES

Hokusai says look carefully.
He says pay attention, notice.
He says keep looking, stay curious.
Hokusai says there is no end to seeing.

He says look forward to getting old.
He says keep changing,
you just get more who you really are.
He says get stuck, accept it, repeat
yourself as long as it is interesting.

He says keep doing what you love.

He says keep praying.

He says every one of us is a child,
every one of us is ancient
every one of us has a body.
He says every one of us is frightened.
He says every one of us has to find
a way to live with fear.

He says everything is alive –
shells, buildings, people, fish,
mountains, trees, wood is alive.
Water is alive.

Everything has its own life.

Everything lives inside us.

He says live with the world inside you.

He says it doesn’t matter if you draw,
or write books. It doesn’t matter
if you saw wood, or catch fish.
It doesn’t matter if you sit at home
and stare at the ants on your veranda
or the shadows of the trees
and grasses in your garden.

It matters that you care.

It matters that you feel.

It matters that you notice.

It matters that life lives through you.

Contentment is life living through you.
Joy is life living through you.
Satisfaction and strength
is life living through you.

He says don’t be afraid.
Don’t be afraid.

Love, feel, let life take you by the hand.

Let life live through you.
